What is Over Weight?
Scientifically, body weight is defined using the "Body Mass Index" (BMI). The BMI is an index based on the formula:
Weight in pounds divided by height in inches2 (lbs/inches2)
Or
Weight in Kilograms divided by height in meters2 (kg/m2)
Based on this index,
Below 18.5 is underweight
18.5-24.9 is Normal
25-29.9 is overweight
30 & above is obese
This index may over estimate body fat in people that are muscular. For older people of people who have lost muscle, this index may underestimate their body fat.
